A more unusual art pottery dish by Briglin Pottery, London, from the 1970s or so.
Handmade with red clay, it is stamped with the Briglin name to the baseline edge. Wheel thrown item, chunky handmade retro Studio Pottery style - very typical of the era. Hand decorated with simple graphics in tones of muted steel blue/grey - glossy glazes. Would originally have been a fancy ashtray but probably now better suited as a plant dish or trinkets or snack bowl.
The good sized shallow bowl is 19cm wide x 4.5cm tall - inner surface is about 15.5cm wide.
Very good condition, lovely glossy uppers in great condition. There are two old slither chips to the red clay baseline which are hard to spot and may have been from production.
Price includes P&P to the UK.
Useful info: The Briglin Pottery was a studio pottery founded in 1948 by Brigitte Goldschmidt and Eileen Lewenstein in the basement of premises at 66 Baker Street, London. Its object was "to produce well designed, attractive pots that could be used in the home, and to sell them at affordable prices." It produced a large quantity of domestic pottery, much of it recognisable from its dark earthenware body, muted colours, white glaze and wax resist designs. They ceased trading in 1990.
