A cast iron candle holder by British designer David Mellor, it's the 'David Mellor 5 light black Serpentine', the design dating from 1972...
It's cleverly designed to hold five or six tealight candles or five standard tapered dinner candles. And looks great clustered together with other similar Serpentine holders. They also came in red and a three candle holder version. Solid matt black cast iron, flat and heavy. Stamped to the back with 'David Mellor 1972'. These are still made today, so it's hard to tell if this is of any vintage.
175 x 23mm. Very good condition. A natural manufacturing/casting flaw to one edge, see photos. A hefty 1.6kg.
