A lovely art tile from the 1970s-1980s era, designed by Geoff Beeston at Badger Pottery, Oxon...
Geoff Beeston dabbled in tiles in the 1950s and early 1960s, from 1968 he established his business, using sprays and stencils to produce great images, mostly of animals. Pigs, badgers, owls and cats seemed to be favourites, but all sorts of wildlife featured at one time or another, From 1968 -1973 he was at Cardigan St, Oxford, then from 1973 in Witney, Oxfordshire/Oxon.
Unusually it's signed by the artist to the back 'Rabbit GB Konijn' (Konijn = European Rabbit). It is also stamped with Badger Pottery Oxon. Simplified design, spray painted with sgraffito (scratched lines), with a Scandinavian Modernist feel. Shades of pale dusky brown over a white tile. Unusual round tile - they are always square. The tile could double up as a wall plaque for display or a trivet.
6" wide diameter x 6mm deep. Very good condition, tile is as produced with no chips. Some spots of black behind the rabbit - excess spotting from the spray painting process.
