A stunning early art pottery piece by Babbacombe Pottery, Torquay, Devon. It dates from 1956 and is model number 43 (scribed to the base). The mid century modernist vase is simple glossy black with a carefully applied cream or off-white spiralling line. It's glazed sunny yellow inside and has a brown rim. The red clay torpedo shaped vessel was handmade - thrown on a wheel. Beautifully stylish and simple. 18.5cm tall x 8cm wide rim (10.5cm widest at the belly). Very good condition for the age with no chips or cracks or crazing. Very clean with bright glazes. Minimal insignificant fine scratches. Where the cream line finishes at the rim there's a rougher area where the glaze was rubbed off revealing the terracotta clay. Stamped and hand incised to the base. Free P&P within GB.
