A vintage studio pottery oval seedpod-shaped vase, by Carn Pottery, Penzance, Cornwall from the 1970s or so... Carn Pottery was John Beusmans; he used muted blue, brown and green glazes over a pale neutral-toned clays and is best known for his geometric Cubist or angular pieces. This is an oval vase with small opening, coloured with green/brown, then rubbed back to reveal highlights and lowlights. A pale stoneware/clay sculpture with a glossy glazed inner. John was inspired by the Cornish sea and landscapes and primitive Celtic/Runic Studio Pottery designs. This example has one side with a stripe and zigzag design, the other has a relief design of a flower and leaves, like a daisy. Which side do you prefer? The greeny brown is a washed-out and muted barely-there green. Hand signed to the base with model number 'N44' and along with his J. Beusmans signature and a very faded stamp. 12cm tall x 8.3cm wide x 5cm deepest. Not a practical vase as you'd only fit a single stem flower in it. Good condition with no chips. It has some dirt scuffs to the matt clay surface. Price includes P&P to the UK.
